Vector Art versus Raster Images

Vector Art is made using points and paths rather than pixels. I have created all my vector art in two programs: Corel Draw and Vinyl Master Pro.

To create Vector Art, a Raster art image can be used. Every line in a Raster image must be traced. Once outlines are made, Vector Art can be re-sized to any proportions without losing its resolution. Lines, colors, and fills can be changed or manipulated easily using Vector Art.

I have always enjoyed creating Vector Art. Every piece of art you find on my site has been vectorized, including those found in my Desktop Publishing compartment.

Raster Image (.jpg - .png - .bmp - .gif - .pdf - .doc) Raster images are made up of tiny squares of color known as pixels. Raster images offer a varied color palette and detail, they are easy to share, and are widely supported by web browsers and common image editors. Most images you see on your computer screen are in raster file format. Raster images are "resolution dependent" and cannot be altered in color, and they lose their sharpness when enlarged. Raster images varied color make them more difficult to print, and a higher quality means a larger file size.

My Custom Vector Machine shows how I trace Every Line in a raster image. The amount of time it takes to trace an image, the more expensive the Vectored image will be.

Vector Images are saved as .SVG - .AI and .EPS files.

Vector Art can be re-sized to proportions without losing its resolution, and colors and fills can be changed or manipulated easily. Vector elements can also come with additional information, and while high in quality, they can also have small file size. Cons of Vector Images: They are not as common as raster, and you have to use Vector editors. Vector images cannot be used for realistic photographs, and they are difficult to share, and not always compatible with image editing software.
